Announcement ‐ 14th Mar 2020

14th March 2020

Dear Parent/Carer

I wanted to provide an update on the current situation with the novel Covid-19 virus with some new advice and guidance. Many of you will have seen the news on Thursday evening following the Government’s emergency COBRA meeting and the Prime Minister’s update. From that it would appear that whole school closures are further down the line than we thought earlier in the week although this situation could still, of course, change. There have been, however, some changes in the advice given which parents should be aware of:

  • From yesterday, if your child has Covid-19 symptoms, however mild, either a new continuous cough or a high temperature (above 37.8 degrees) – then they should stay at home for at least 7 days to protect others and help slow the spread of disease;
  • If a family member has these symptoms, the advice is that you DON’T keep your child off school, although again, this advice could well change over time.

The rules regarding isolation apply to staff too which means that there may well be some disruption to lessons over the coming weeks and months. We will do our best to minimise the impact. Please note that if a student or member of staff is absent for 7 days, it does not necessarily mean that they are carrying the virus! At the moment of writing, we have no confirmed cases of staff or students testing positive for Covid-19.

We are actively preparing teaching and learning materials in the event of whole or partial school closure.  Google Classroom will be used for Years 4, 5 and 6 that all children whose parents have internet access can utilise.  The children in these year groups all have logins and passwords and rehearsed this with teachers yesterday in school.  We will be using a different online system for EYFS through to Year 3 and will also be providing a book for children to use for work where necessary.  Again, links for this will be shared with parents this week.  It will also be important to continue the usual expectation of reading to and with your child(ren), practising times tables, practising spellings / phonics for the week.  We will also be suggesting a number of useful websites that you can access for free to support your child(ren) during this time.

Moving forward, as the situation evolves we will be guided by advice from Public Health England, Oxfordshire County Council and the Government and will communicate significant decisions with you via our normal communication channels. As ever, please contact the school directly if you have specific concerns.  Be assured, the school will update you when there are significant decisions that need to be shared with you as parents/carers.

Yours faithfully

Mrs J MacLachlan
