This term year 5 are learning about the Victorians! During our lessons we have studied how the Victorians changed British history and compared Victorian life to our modern day life in 2020. Our topic focuses on many different areas including: Queen Victorian, The Industrial Revolution, inventions, games, food, the lives of children, famous Victorians and Victorian art work in the style of L. S Lowry.
Reminders and Rountines
- Have a named water bottle
- Wear correct uniform (in line with school policy) that is clearly labelled with name and that is suitable for the weather type
- Read daily at home
- Practise multiplication tables weekly (including the division facts)
- Complete weekly homework (set on a Friday and handed in the following Friday via Google Classroom)
- Children will have a chance to change their reading book each week, as and when they finish. Reading records will also be collected in on Fridays
PE will take place on:
5 AT - Monday and Tuesday
5 KGKB - Tuesday and Thursday
Children should come to school in their PE kit on these days.

The children in Year 5 designed and made their own Volcano Sculpture as part of our Geography topic this half term. To tie in with Arts Week and the theme of 'Water', we have thought about different volcanoes that are partly underwater. The children enjoyed using paper mache to build their volcano and secure its shape.
Volcano Sculpture20th November 2020
As part of our focus on Mountains and Volcanoes, the children have been working hard to plan a route for the emergency services to rescue an injured hiker who is stranded on a mountain. We had to think carefully about which route we would take and any obstacles that we might face on the way. The children worked in pairs to plan their route and shared their route with the class at the end of the lesson. We have put some pictures of this work in our gallery.
In English, Year 5 have been studying the poem 'Flanders Field' by John McCrae. Here are our performances of the poem:

As part of our continued work on performance poetry, we have tried to put a small amount of music to our performance of 'The Fallen by Laurence Binyon.

Year 5 have been learning how to bring three harmonies together using the song 'Everybody loves Saturday night'.

Year 5 have been learning how to use DADWAVERS to structure their writing. This is just one of the excellent pieces of writing that was produced after lesson one.
