This term year 5 will be learning about Volcanoes! During our lessons we will be learning many different geographical skills including grid referencing, OS symbols, map reading and route planning. We will culminate our learning on Volcanoes with an art day where we will build 3D volcanoes using our sculpture skills!
Reminders and Rountines
- Have a named water bottle
- Wear correct uniform (in line with school policy) that is clearly labelled with name and that is suitable for the weather type
- Read daily at home
- Practise multiplication tables weekly (including the division facts)
- Complete weekly homework (set on a Friday and handed in the following Friday via Google Classroom)
PE will take place on Monday and Tuesday
As part of our focus on Mountains and Volcanoes, the children have been working hard to plan a route for the emergency services to rescue an injured hiker who is stranded on a mountain. We had to think carefully about which route we would take and any obstacles that we might face on the way. The children worked in pairs to plan their route and shared their route with the class at the end of the lesson. We have put some pictures of this work in our gallery.
In English, Year 5 have been studying the poem 'Flanders Field' by John McCrae. Here are our performances of the poem:

Year 5 have been learning how to bring three harmonies together using the song 'Everybody loves Saturday night'.
