English programmes of study: key stages 1 and 2

Phonics and Early Reading

Phonics is taught daily across EYFS and KS1. Teachers use the DfE Letters and Sounds document to plan for progression, as well as using supplementary resources to enrich the provision on offer to children. This includes, but is not limited to; Jolly Phonics, Phonics Play and Twinkl resources. Children are regularly assessed to ensure the teaching of phonics is pitched at a suitable level for them. Phase 1 runs alongside all phases of phonics to ensure a rich environment for language development is evident across the age range. We have a range of reading materials to support children's development in early reading including Oxford Reading Tree and Songbirds Phonics.
